concert this weekend

Jim D and I set up a local show this weekend with the Kathi Macdonald Blues Band. The room was about 80' wide and at about 200' deep. We set up a pair of 828 boxes with 3156's, one 311-90 w/299 and one 311-60 w/299 bi-amped at 660 hz with Altec 9444's . We also added a pair of Macaulley Subs (though we would have preferred not to use them, there was supposed to be a DJ dance after the main show for teenagers, so we added some extra "bump" for them) on the center channel with a low pass filter. The band and the sound was phenomenal. The band couldn't get over how good it sounded as well! It was the best sounding show I have been at in years. It was very refreshing to hear a good band through a good system without a bunch of the over-processing and hard sound I associate with live shows these days.

I would have loved to have heard that, what did you use for amplification?

We used a Biamp Newport 16 for the mix, Symetrix 501 comp/limiter, 9444Bs for the mains and the subs, 15581A plug in xovers on the two main amps, and a low pass filter for the subs. The monitors were powered by a QSC 1700 with a dual ch 2/3 octave eq and Symetrix dual band comp/limiter. Monitors were an old 1221? and two homebuilt Ev/Eminence jobs. We did not even use an eq on the mains. Sounded great, very stable, speakers were the same vintage as the band. First pictures with the digital camera and they came out too dark, too bad. JIM
